Dear Tea party;
First things first... To begin with, i want to say
that i completely respect your point of view on social security. Your ancestors
were the true pioneers of America ! In those days Jed didn't need a doctor...
never got sick, didn't have time, worked twenty hours a day and even if he did
get sick, the nearest doctor was fifty miles away. No sir, in those days you got
sick, you sure be dead soon...
People were strong though, died young but lived a
strong and "happy" life ! Family had meaning in those days ! No TV or radio to
listen to. People would gather around every once in awhile and do-si-do their
partners ! Had to have a rifle in those days too ! You rarely saw a stranger and
when you did it was either Jesse James, a wild bear or an indian for sure
!...
In those days didn't have to pay taxes either, if
there was a road to be made, Jed and a couple of friends would go out there and
make one with their own bare hands !
The only social security they had in those days was
the neighbor, (if they had one) and religion...
I perfectly understand this "every man for himself" heritage, it's part of what made America the strong nation that it is... but what i don't
understand is your refusal to see that the world has changed... America has
changed... Look at our cities... cars with people picking their noses ready to
burn out at any moment ! People playing games on their I-Pad while robots do the
dirty work ! People watch reality tv shows or go on the Internet to tell the
story of their lives...
None of these people could be able to go back in
time and live in the seventeenth or eighteenth century, in a time when all you
had to do to eat was to go hunting... How would this be possible today ?? If the
supermarket is closed, you can't go out and hunt ! If you don't have any money,
you don't survive, you don't have a chance...
How would a person like Jed survive in our world
today ? Think about that...
What is happiness ? Well it's everybody's own
business right ? You smoke, you drink, you don't have a job, then you get
cancer... tough luck right ? I'm sorry, i just can't understand this form of
selfishness. How can one be proud of humanity knowing that we sometimes treat
animals better than we do other human beings ?...
Poor old modern day Jed has a small pension,
lives in a small apartment, likes to drink some beer in front of the Monday
night football game and could possibly get sick some time soon...
I like poor old Jed... Never did much in his life,
likes to drink, eats junk food but he's a good old guy who likes to play Santa
at Chrismas time and the kids on the block love him. I don't want to look down
at this person and tell him that he doesn't deserve to be healthy ! I want to
respect him as a human being. A human being that has his own personal history, perhaps
he worked hard but lost his wife and kids in an accident, started to drink after
that... who wouldn't ?? On the other hand, perhaps he's just lazy, his parents didn't give him a
good education ?? Who knows and who cares !! As a human being he should have
access to some sort of united social security, call it whatever you want.
Because we as a nation have decided that no one should be refused medical
attention !
That's why Obamacare is so important. It's about
trying to make the world just a little bit more confortable to live in... no
matter who you are...
Isn't that something to be proud of
?...
Thank you for reading.
